New Director of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg Has Been Appointed

Dr. Andreas Bareiß is to become director of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg

He has international experience and an excellent knowledge of the media industry.

Dr. Andreas Bareiss (in the picture on the left) signed his contract as director of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg GmbH on Wednesday. On May 1, the 44-year-old will succeed Prof. Thomas Schadt, who has has been the director of FABW since 2005.

Clear vote in the supervisory board

State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun (in the picture on the right) said on Thursday in Stuttgart: “With Dr. Andreas Bareiß, we are gaining a young and at the same time experienced expert in the film industry, who, as an internationally active producer, has a remarkable track record. At the same time, he is FABW's exceptional position in a global comparison. I am convinced that he will tackle the challenges of the coming years with great expertise and enthusiasm. The supervisory board made this decision unanimously. The new director Andreas Bareiß is a sign of the future viability of the Filmakademie.”

Looking forward to a “great team” in Ludwigsburg

Dr. Andreas Bareiss said: “I am grateful for the trust that the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg has placed in me. I am incredibly looking forward to the new task. As director of the Filmakademie, I want to make a committed contribution to the profound transformation processes that affect both the media industry and educational institutions. I am fortunate to have a great team at the Filmakademie with whom I can tackle the tasks at hand, so that excellent media professionals will continue to be trained in Ludwigsburg in the future. In particular,
I look forward to working with Dr. Jan Pinkava, the director of the Animationsinstitut.”

Lecturer at the Filmakademie since 2017

Dr. Andreas Bareiss has been working for Gaumont Germany since 2018, initially as head of the legal department and since 2020 as a member of the general management, head of the office in Berlin and as a producer. He has been a lecturer at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg since 2017, and also teaches at other colleges and universities such as Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart and Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. For the international series co-production “In Her Car”, which he was responsible for as executive producer for Gaumont, he has currently been nominated by the German Academy for Television as best TV producer in 2024 and has also received international awards. Since he participated in FABW´s master class programme Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris and was born in Ludwigsburg, he also knows the Filmakademie very well personally.

Contract for an initial five years

Dr. Bareiss' contract as director of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg GmbH begins on May 1, 2025, initially for a period of five years. The supervisory board of Filmakademie has appointed him as managing director of FABW for the same period.
