IN MY PARENTS' HOUSE celebrates premiere in Rotterdam
The feature film debut IM HAUS MEINER ELTERN (IN MY PARENTS' HOUSE) by director Tim Ellrich was awarded the Special Jury Award in the Tiger Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The film, which was made as a diploma film at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, competed in this section with thirteen other international productions.
The jury described the black-and-white family drama as “an intimately observed film” and awarded it one of the two special prizes, the Special Jury Award, worth €10,000. The main prize went to the Croatian-Italian-Slovenian co-production FIUME O MORTE!
IN MY PARENTS' HOUSE tells the story of Holle, a spiritual healer who takes care of her brother, who suffers from schizophrenia, and her aging parents. When she tries to bring about changes in her family, she meets a man who rejects any kind of help. The leading roles are played by Jenny Schily, Ursula Werner, Manfred Zapatka and Jens Brock. The film was not only a calling card for Tim Ellrich (writer and director) and producer Leopold Pape (Coronado Film), who are graduating from FABW with the film, but also for numerous Filmakademie alumni who were involved in the project (see credits below).
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is one of the most important European film festivals and actively supports new and experimental film talents through its co-production market CineMart, the Hubert Bals Fund, Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities. The Tiger Competition was launched in 1995 with the aim of discovering and raising the profile of emerging international film talents. The Tiger Award, endowed with 40,000 euros, goes to the producers and directors of the best film in the category, while two special prizes are awarded by the jury for outstanding artistic achievements. In the 54th edition of the festival, IN MY PARENTS' HOUSE was the only German entry in the main competition.
