IDEA AND ARCHITECTURE

Where, at the beginning of the 1990s, abandoned barracks and car parks dominated the landscape, a unique centre for media education has meanwhile grown. The Filmakademie, Animationsinstitut, Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris and the Academy of Performing Arts are at the forefront of their respective fields and contribute to the highest level of work in both specialised and interdisciplinary areas.

Architecturally, this campus forms an open and permeable ensemble - as a visible sign of the free stage for artistic and personal development. Within this spirit, the campus institutions provide their students with spaces for individual development, for gaining experience and for building their own networks across national and disciplinary boundaries. As such, the Ludwigsburg campus remains an important hub in the networks of its alumni, regardless of the fields and locations in which their careers develop after graduation.

THE INSTITUTIONS

A central feature of the Ludwigsburg campus is the autonomy of the four resident educational institutions in the organisation of their course content, while at the same time they are interwoven on numerous levels. Each institution has first-class personnel and technical equipment, extensive international networks and a faculty of outstanding artists and practitioners. This inspiring coexistence and togetherness brings with it an interdisciplinary spirit that greatly promotes the crossing of boundaries between narrative forms, genres and technologies. The possibilities include film, animation, theatre, the latest digital post-production techniques, transmedia formats, and much more, provided in a spatial proximity that is unparalleled in the European university landscape.

A common credo of the four institutions is the study programmes` strong project orientation. In addition to inspiration, students also find the resources for their projects and ensure a vibrant campus life with their diverse and ambitious projects.

ACADEMY TOURS

How is a film made? How do I become a director or cinematographer, editor or producer? How do students get prominent actors to act in their films? And how does studying at the Filmakademie actually work?

Answers to these and other questions are provided by our students who have been specially trained for guided tours during the Academy Tour. During a tour of the Filmakademie, interested groups - depending on availability - get to know our studios, the technical warehouse or the film sound mixing department, where they can also take a look at the Animationsinstitut. At the end, selected short films are presented.
