In all areas relevant to production technology, such as recording technology, studios, post-production, presentation technology, and cinema technology, a dedicated team constantly monitors the market, adds to the range on offer and adapts the equipment to current developments.

Mobile technology

Mobile technology

The Filmakademie provides the latest mobile film and sound equipment for all student productions from its technical warehouse. Student productions in the main study programme have access to a large selection of digital film technology that meets the latest industry standards.

Staff from the Mobile Technology department advise students on technical and safety issues. They coordinate and organise the mobile production technology camera, sound and lighting. The department is responsible for the provision, control and maintenance of the camera, as well as lighting and stage equipment.

If necessary, the personnel instruct students in the use of the equipment in the hire park and advise them on the practical use of the products.

Production design workshop

Production design workshop

In the workshop, the students' designs are realised as models or in original size.

The workshop is mainly focussed on woodworking. Panel saws, sliding table saws, cross-cut saws, band saws and the most important small machines are available and can be used by the production design students after detailed instruction.

Surface work can also be carried out (painting, patina, covering, etc.).

The workshop management provides advice on feasibility, construction, choice of materials, and costing.

Video editing

Video editing

Students use the editing systems for teaching and practice purposes as well as for editing film projects. Fully-equipped editing rooms with Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro editing systems are available for offline video editing in the Lubitsch building.

Video data can be saved locally or on the Avid NEXIS storage system.

TRANSFER ROOM

There are numerous tape machines and DVD recorders in the transfer room with which tapes can be copied and ingested and played out.

The video editing systems in the transfer room (Media Composer, Premiere, Resolve) can be used to play out to or ingest from tape. Ingest systems are available for file-based workflows. All systems in the transfer room are connected to the Avid storage systems and can be used for work steps such as import, export, transcode and DVD or Blu-ray creation.

Digital post-production

On the ground floor of the Ludwigsburg Stadtbad, the students' productions receive their finishing touches. Here, in the digital post-production department, the individual contributions from the various departments come together and are brought into their final and submission format.

In a total of 4 suites, students can grade, finish and master on modern computer systems. A calibrated monitor setup is available for the various requirements.
All systems are equipped with AVID MC, various Adobe products and DaVinci Resolve software for color grading. Grading with DaVinci Resolve is simplified with a corresponding control panel. All suites are provided with 5.1 audio. In addition, the systems for DCP creation, the current cinema standard for up to 4K and Dolby ATMOS, are integrated in two of these suites.

A screening room with a 100” display and seating for up to 12 people is available for all departments.

In the future, a fixed installation in another, specially designed room will allow users to take their own steps in virtual production. This room combines technology and creativity with a 4x2 meter LED wall and a motion capturing unit with 24 cameras.
