Filmakademie

Theory and practice hand in hand

Since its foundation in 1991, Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg has developed into one of the world's leading film schools. The project-orientated teaching concept of learning by doing has contributed to this. Students are supervised by more than 400 high-calibre experts from the film and media industry. Every year, teams of students from various departments produce about 250 films of all genres, which regularly win prizes at film festivals. The overriding objective of the programme is to provide students with the best possible preparation for a successful career in the film and media industry.

The Animationsinstitut has been part of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg since 2002. The Institut is one of the world's leading training centres for animation and interactive media.

Guiding Principles

“So, dear students: let's get going and do our work with gusto! Be courageous and free of fear on your way through your studies here in Ludwigsburg. Stay playful, open, curious, show your feelings, form bonds, create creative unrest, communicate, listen to each other, ask questions until we don't want to hear them anymore.”

THE CAMPUS

Interdisciplinary and international

The Ludwigsburg Media Campus, which is unique in Europe, extends over two neighbouring areas and is shared by the Filmakademie with its Animationinstitut, the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris.

This proximity leads to numerous interdisciplinary projects, which characterise studies at the Filmakademie just as much as its wide range of international programmes, which are constantly being developed further. During the course of their studies, around ¼ of students participate in international exchanges with partner universities on five continents.
