Profile

The Technical Directing (TD) course of studies is a postgraduate diploma course at Animationsinstitut aimed at students with previous knowledge of computer science or similar subject areas.

In the course of their studies, TD students work and experiment with exciting technologies such as motion capture and LED walls. Their fellow students from other course of study support them in projects with their technical expertise. Whether it's programming pipelines, automating animation processes or workflows, TDs take on these technical challenges.

A large part of the training at Animationsinstitut is working in the internal research and development department, where technological innovations are developed for the creative industry. The research work, combined with project work, promises plenty of freedom to experiment and try things out. Students are supported by highly-qualified lecturers and international mentors.

A network between industry and students is built up during the course of studies, which makes it easier to start a career and offers excellent job opportunities.

As a TD at the Filmakademie, I am free to decide what I want to specialise in and what I want to research. I can request professional mentoring and workshops at any time. But what I enjoy most is the project-based work with other students.

I can only advise future TDs: Take advantage of all the opportunities at AKA!

Studying Technical Directing is a great chance to be a bridge between the technical and the artistic part of a project, which makes it a really exciting field to work in.
