German Film Awards: Nominations

The FABW graduation film VENA has been nominated for the 75th German Film Awards in the categories Best Picture, Best Cinematography and Best Female Lead. In addition, four Filmakademie graduates are in the running for a “LOLA” in several categories.

New Director has been appointed

Dr Andreas Bareiss will become Director of the FABW from 1 May 2025. The internationally experienced producer and long-standing lecturer at the academy was unanimously elected by the supervisory board.

Johannes Naber wins Thomas Strittmatter Award

This year, the Thomas Strittmatter Screenplay Award from the MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg goes to  FABW graduate Johannes Naber. The 20,000-euro prize was awarded on February 19, at the Berlin International Film Festival.

German Camera Awards 2025:

Two students and three alumni of FABW have been nominated for the 35th German Camera Award for their achievements in the fields of cinematography and editing.

The award ceremony will take place in Cologne on June 13.

Workshop with students

The "Generation Übermorgen" film workshop in Ludwigsburg enables young people from less privileged backgrounds to tell their stories through film and promotes diversity.

Award for Successful Diversity Strategy

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg received the "Shaping Diversity" certificate for its successful two-year effort to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in all areas of its organization.

Symposium INPUT>OUTPUT

The INPUT>OUTPUT symposium, taking place at FABW on April 7 and 8, 2025, is dedicated to the exchange between film, technology and AI. Registration is now open!

SISTERQUEENS wins Grimme Award 2025

The FABW documentary SISTERQUEENS by Clara Stella Hüneke (writer and director) has been honored at the 61st Grimme Awards in the “Children & Youth” category. The diploma film portrays three girls who creatively question social issues in a rap project.

75. Berlinale: Award for FABW alumnus Philipp Döring

FABW alumnus Philipp Döring has won the Heiner Carow Prize at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. A three-person jury honored him for his empathetic and moving documentary PALLIATIVSTATION.
