German Film Critics’ Award 2024:

At the 2024 German Film Critics' Award, Filmakademie alumni Soleen Yusef won Best Children’s Film (SIEGER SEIN) and Chiara Fleischhacker won Best Debut (VENA).

 

 

 

 

New Director has been appointed

Dr Andreas Bareiss will become Director of the FABW from 1 May 2025. The internationally experienced producer and long-standing lecturer at the academy was unanimously elected by the supervisory board.

Award for Successful Diversity Strategy

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg received the "Shaping Diversity" certificate for its successful two-year effort to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in all areas of its organization.

Johannes Naber wins Thomas Strittmatter Award

This year, the Thomas Strittmatter Screenplay Award from the MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg goes to  FABW graduate Johannes Naber. The 20,000-euro prize was awarded on February 19, at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival

At the 46th FMOP, two FABW films won audience awards: YUMI – THE WHOLE WORLD (Documentary) and SKIN ON SKIN (Medium-Length Film). FABW alumnus Jan David Gunther served as cinematographer for the award-winning film UNGEDULD DES HERZENS.

International Film Festival Rotterdam

The FABW feature film IM HAUS MEINER ELTERN competes in the main competition "Tiger Competition" at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Many alumni of the Filmakademie were also involved in its creation.

SISTERQUEENS nominated for the 2025 Grimme Award

The FABW documentary SISTERQUEENS by Clara Stella Hüneke has been nominated for the 61st Grimme Award. The film follows three girls as they creatively explore social issues through a rap project.

Film Workshop Links Perspectives from Baden-Württemberg and Chile

On December 17, 2024, the final round of the film workshop MIRADAS CRUZADAS will begin. Students from FABW and the Universidad de Valparaíso will create short films about life in Stuttgart and Valparaíso.

Film Students Sound the Alarm

In an open letter, they urgently call for reforms to film funding to prevent the industry's decline and secure the future of young filmmakers.
