NOMINATIONS FOR FABW UND ALP
The twelve nominated films for the German Short Film Award 2024 have been announced. From a total of 273 submitted works, a film by students from Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and by participants of the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris programme were also selected. In addition, a graduate of FABW was considered for the preselection. The festive award ceremony will take place on November 21, 2024 in Hamburg.
In the category “Feature Film from more than 10 minutes to 30 minutes running time”, the student team around director Simon Schneckenburger can be pleased about the nomination of SKIN ON SKIN. The film is set in a German slaughterhouse, where a silent connection develops between Jakob, a guard, and Boris, a worker. Amidst violence and cold, the film focuses on questions of power, powerlessness and the longing for freedom.
In the category “Short Fiction up to 10 minutes” MELODIES OF BARKING DOGS was nominated, which was created as part of the one-year postgraduate programme Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris. Producers Rebecca Hartung and Alexia Wallemacq, current participants in the programme, and director *Daniel Huss are hoping to win an award. In their film, they delve deeply into the world of seventeen-year-old Toni, who is spending an evening with friends in a club house. As “Schlager” music plays in the background and the air becomes increasingly thick, he begins to question his own desires and longings.
In addition, Filmakademie alumna Eva Könnemann is competing for one of the coveted “Lolas” in the category “Experimental Film up to 30 Minutes” with her film THAT'S ALL FROM ME. It focuses on the exchange between a filmmaker and an author who reflect together on the challenges of reconciling motherhood and an artistic career.
The German Short Film Award, which is awarded by the German government, honors outstanding achievements in the field of short films and comes with prize money of €30,000 for the winner and €15,000 for the nominee. In addition, the best medium-length film is awarded a prize of €20,000.
