Several alumni also pre-selected for a “LOLA”
On Monday, March 17, the German Film Academy announced the nominations for the 75th German Film Awards. FABW graduate film VENA (written and directed by Chiara Fleischhacker*) was nominated for a “LOLA” in three categories: In the competition for Best Picture, the producers, Filmkademie graduate Martin Rohé and Dietmar Güntsche (Neue Bioskop), are in the running for the golden statue. FABW alumna Lisa Jilg also has a chance of winning an award for Best Cinematography in this intense feature film. In addition, leading actress Emma Nova has made it to the preselection in the category Best Actress.
VENA tells the gripping story of the relationship between Marla, a family midwife, and Jenny, a young woman with a drug addiction who becomes unintentionally pregnant by her boyfriend and faces an impending prison sentence. Jenny initially rejects the midwife assigned to her. But Marla does not judge her, and so Jenny gradually finds the courage to face her fears.
Several graduates of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg can also hope to win an award:
Philipp Sichler is nominated for CRANKO in the category Best Cinematography, and Julian R. Wagner for SEPTEMBER 5 in the category Best Production Design. In addition, two alumni of FABW's Animationsinstitut were selected: In the category Best Visual Effects, Jan Stoltz (with Franzisca Puppe) for HAGEN – IM TAL DER NIBELUNGEN, and Sven Martin (with Max Riess and Bernie Kimbacher) for WOODWALKERS are heading for a “LOLA”.
The German Film Awards are organized by the German Film Academy in collaboration with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM). They are considered the industry's most important awards in Germany. The “LOLAS” will be presented on May 9, 2025 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz and broadcast live in the ARD Mediathek from 7 p.m. The nominees and prizewinners are chosen by the approximately 2,400 members of the German Film Academy.
