The application period for the academic year 2025/26 at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg (FABW) has officially started! As of today (January 7, 2025), the Ludwigsburg-based film school has opened its online application portal. Creative talents from around the world are invited to submit their applications by February 15, 2025.
As one of the leading institutions for film and media, FABW offers a wide range of degree programs and specializations, including Directing, Cinematography, Animation, Screenwriting, Production, Editing, and many other creative fields. With its hands-on approach to education and innovative structure – such as the internationally renowned Animationsinstitut – the academy prepares its students for successful careers in the film and media industry. In addition, interested candidates can apply for a lateral entry or diploma continuation program at FABW. Degree programs such as Film Music, Sound Design, Motion Design, and Production Design provide opportunities to expand and deepen expertise in specialized areas.
FABW also places great emphasis on internationality. With the establishment of the International Office in 2020, the academy actively prepares students for the challenges of a globalized job market. Collaborations with renowned international partner universities such as La fémis in Paris, UCLA Extension in Los Angeles, and the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, regular guest lectures from leading filmmakers worldwide, and participation in international festivals and competitions open up numerous opportunities for students to establish themselves globally. "We see ourselves not only as a training institution but also as a springboard for international careers," says Guido Lukoschek, Head of the International Office at Filmakademie.
Interested applicants can register through the online application portal, upload their documents and work samples, and submit their applications digitally. In addition to a resume and motivational letter, depending on the chosen program, creative projects that showcase the artistic and technical suitability of the applicants must also be submitted.
Moreover, even without a general university entrance qualification (Abitur), applicants can be admitted to FABW through the so-called "talent clause" (§ 10 of the Admission Regulations). Applicants under this clause will take part in an extended entrance interview with the examination board, which assesses both specialized and general knowledge relevant to the chosen study program.
