Award for Successful Diversity Strategy

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg has received the "Vielfalt gestalten" (shaping diversity) certificate from the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in Berlin after completing a two-year Diversity Audit. This award recognizes the successful measures implemented by FABW to promote diversity and equal opportunities in education and teaching, as well as in overall organizational development.

In order to obtain the certificate, FABW underwent an intensive two-year process, guided by external auditor Dr. Isabell Lisberg-Haag and coordinated by an internal steering group. The previously formulated goals were turned into concrete projects and measures, focusing on areas such as the selection and recruitment of students, expanding communication on diversity, and diversity-sensitive recruitment, retention, and professional development for staff. Another key focus was exploring how creativity and diversity in film production can be productively linked.

As part of the audit, the Filmakademie developed a tailored diversity strategy that includes both organizational structures and the promotion of emerging filmmakers. The goal was to create an inclusive environment that actively fosters the diversity of students and staff and uses it as an opportunity for the institution's continued development.

The steering group, consisting of Marika Köpf, Ute Härter, David Steffen, Jai Wanigesinghe, and Lucca Veyhl, was almost fully represented at the Allianz Forum at Pariser Platz in Berlin to receive the certificate and celebrate the successful completion of the audit.

For over ten years, the Stifterverband has supported universities and research institutions in developing and implementing individualized diversity strategies. The "Vielfalt gestalten" Diversity Audit helps to develop specific strategies that align with the institution's profile. It also supports the development of structures and measures to include diverse groups in everyday university life and fosters the entire process through moderated reflections and discussions with all participants.
